I have tuned to 98.5 hoping to find Christmas music and been mightly disappointed. Their loss as I now listen to Christmas music on 93.3, a station I would not normally tune to. I do miss the more secular music, but I'd rather this than 1 Grinchly song per hour. I hope the ratings are worth disappointing (former?) loyal listeners.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12833815486446438983noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4808075507629040601.post-65717149712138631532013-12-13T14:34:18.776-08:002013-12-13T14:34:18.776-08:00Thanks Roddy, for the column. It made sense and the numbers from last January proved it. What I can blame are the other radio operators, Clear Channel, Cumulus, etc., for not taking advantage of a tremendous opportunity to fill a seasonal format hole in Atlanta (and for that matter, a year-round format hole of soft AC / Adult hits). Technology has provided me with some alternatives (I-Heart Radio, smartphone, etc), but I acknowledge many listeners do not have those options. Besides, there is no substitute for a local terrestrial radio station playing the format you want to hear.

We miss your columns, Roddy! Rest up; we look forward to your regular doses of radio insight. Cheers....Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4808075507629040601.post-10646974872943402852013-12-12T08:27:21.259-08:002013-12-12T08:27:21.259-08:00Thanks for posting this Mr. Freeman. I have been a long time Atlanta area resident and I am very disappointed with the B98.5 fm decision not to play Christmas music for a month on a 24/7 format. It's nice that the 104.7 Fish station does it, but there was something nice about a mainstream variety in holiday music, it spanned generations AND there was an opening for more new artists who released Christmas albums. I worked in the music industry for a brief period of time. Every station has a top 20 playlist and frankly I cannot tell the difference between B98.5 and Star 94, nor can I tell the difference between 96.1 AND 99.7, plus there is a tremendous amount of overlap between all 4 of these stations, I would say close to 65-70%. I guess what I am trying to say is not only am I disappointed but I am also bored. I don't know what is in the water around Atlanta, but it would be nice to see stations taking more changes with their formats and not playing the same 20 tracks on every station. Thanks for post and have a very Merry Christmas!Jmcnally647https://www.blogger.com/profile/03142885246043551167noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4808075507629040601.post-3430366211178807752013-12-05T19:50:46.185-08:002013-12-05T19:50:46.185-08:00Listen to a music and talk oriented stations until...Listen to a music and talk oriented stations until thanksgiving then all Christmas tunes.
